Since we don't have any problem getting the best meat in the States, eating fish is kind of main focus here. One of the classic meal you can enjoy in Japan is the "Saba Miso Ni". (Mackerel simmered/boiled with Miso) And to find the best Sabamisoni, just look for a fish market where they do lunch as well. In my case, "Uoriki" in Shibuya/Yoyogi.

This place serves one of the best Sabamisoni in Tokyo. Being a fish market as well, of course they have a fresh-EST fishes lining up to be sold too. The entrance is super local Japanese style which you may need a little courage to enter, but it is a small cozy diner with mom-like ladies are working very hard.

Make sure to pick the menu card hanging in the entrance. And for Sabamiso, It is the 4 cards from the left bottom. The 2 blue ones saying "Shimo" means the lower half of the mackerel with lot of volume, and red one "Kami" is upper part with softer texture. I prefre the upper part so chose "Kami".

Rice and miso soup are refill-free and if the card you chose have the number of the day, you get side-dishes FREE! Such a generous service!
The mackerel is boiled with sweet miso and it's is sooo soft! The tenderness of the oil makes you go for the rice - miso soup - and repeat that over and over again. When you finish the fish itself, you pour the miso (of course with lots of mackerel's dissolved delicious taste inside!) into the rice bowl and mix it up and finish.
This is not a sit and chill for 3 hours kind of restaurant, but I will guarantee that you will get that "Deep Japanese Culture" experience here.
