I LOVE JAPAN TRIP part15

When in Shimane prefecture, you visit Izumo Taisha (Grand Shrine), and that is a must.

But I believe before visiting the main spot of this shrine, I was able to see see the other beauty of this place. One of the thing was this pathway which leads to the main gate.

The straight simple pathway which is also believed that Gods all around the world walks through is very relaxing to walk. It is almost like all your sins are washed away.

When I visited around June, the beautiful garden on the right side was full of watery lilies and hydrangea which are totally worth seeing.

And the beautiful mountain view are just breathtaking.

All that and you'll reach the main gate.

Then when you pass the entrance gate with one bow, you will have the pleasure to stand in front of this shrine. Just a common tip before you pray, this place have different way of praying compared to other shrines in Japan. (Common way of praying - see this article!) Instead of 2 bows-2claps-2bow, Izumo style is 2bows-4claps-1bow. So don"t get it wrong!

Izumo Taisha is where the Okuninushi-no-Okami (One of the God of Lands) are enshrined but the reason this place is so special is once a year (on October) all the Gods from Japan are said to visit this place for meeting. The above picture are the board saying that this place is the bed of all the visiting Gods. So literally, Izumo Taisya has a "hotel" for Gods! Awesome right!?

In addition, when you go around the area, you will also see the shrine where Susanoo-no- Mikoto (Father of Okuninushi-no-Okami) is partially enshrined and his shrine is also beautiful. And his legend story is one of my favorite!
